Our Story
Eastern North Carolina has the highest rates of asthma emergency department visits and in-patient hospitalizations in the State of North Carolina.
In 2012, an environmental health professor at East Carolina University and a respiratory therapist at Vidant Medical Center initiated the Eastern Carolina Asthma Prevention Program (ECAPP) in Greenville, N.C. Through home-based visits, and environmental interventions, ECAPP was able to improve the respiratory health of children and reduce emergency department visits among underserved children throughout Eastern N.C. |
What We Do
Our emphasis is on education and prevention. Through home-based visits, ECAPP uses national (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) guidelines to reduce environmental exposures in the home to reduce asthma in our region. We also provide guidance and resources to help families that have children with asthma. To edit, click on the text to start adding your own words.
